GPS-Based Outdoor Yokai AR Game

Overview

This is an interactive outdoor game using a smartphone application, where players take part in a yōkai-hunting journey along the route from Fukuzaki Station to Tsujikawayama Park. With the support of GPS, the app displays the locations of yōkai hiding nearby, creating a sense of real-world adventure and discovery.

Players move through real-life landmarks, observe their surroundings, and use their phone screens to find and interact with the yōkai. Each time a yōkai is found, the player collects a virtual trace or item. Once all yōkai hidden along the route are discovered, the game is completed, and the player receives a virtual reward or a certificate of completion within the app.

The game not only offers an enjoyable entertainment experience but also encourages light outdoor activity, making it suitable for all age groups – especially families with young children. At the same time, it provides an opportunity to explore the local landscape and learn about Japanese folklore through the unique imagery of yōkai.
